August Newsletter
Empowered Patients. Stronger Voices. Healthier Lives.
As we welcome the month of August, it’s a wonderful time to pause and reflect on one of the most important relationships we have—the relationship with our own health.
Too often, we think of healthcare as something that happens to us. We wait for appointments, listen to recommendations, and hope we’re asking the right questions. But the truth is, every patient has an important role to play in their own healthcare journey.
Being an empowered patient doesn’t mean you have to know all the medical answers. It means being curious, informed, and willing to speak up when something doesn’t feel right or when you need more information.
At The Patient Path, I believe that knowledge gives patients confidence, and confidence leads to better conversations, better decisions, and a greater sense of control during what can often feel like an overwhelming experience.
This Month, I Encourage You To:
- Prepare questions before every medical appointment.
- Keep an updated list of your medications and healthcare providers.
- Review your After Visit Summary before leaving the office.
- Ask for clarification if something doesn’t make sense.
- Never hesitate to request a second opinion if you feel it’s necessary.
Remember, asking questions is not challenging your healthcare team—it’s becoming an engaged partner in your care.
A Special Message to Caregivers
If you’re caring for a loved one, thank you.
Your support, patience, and advocacy often make an incredible difference behind the scenes. While you’re helping someone else navigate appointments, treatments, and recovery, I encourage you to care for yourself as well.
Schedule your own preventive care. Take breaks when you can. Accept help when it’s offered. Your well-being matters, too.
Patient Advocacy: More Than Navigation
Many people believe a patient advocate simply attends appointments or helps organize paperwork. While those services are important, advocacy is also about helping patients understand their options, improve their health literacy, and feel confident participating in decisions about their care.
My goal is to ensure that every person I work with feels heard, respected, and empowered.
August Wellness Challenge
This month, I invite you to make one simple commitment:
Ask one more question at every healthcare appointment.
That one question may provide reassurance, uncover important information, or help you make a more informed decision.
Small steps often create meaningful change.
Thank you for allowing The Patient Path to be part of your healthcare journey. Whether you’re navigating a chronic illness, recovering from a transplant, supporting a loved one, or simply striving to maintain your health, know that you are not alone.
Together, we can build confidence through knowledge and hope through advocacy.
Warmly,
Sherry Griffeth
